Articular cartilage repair is a procedure to restore the surface of the joint’s cartilage. It is targeted at patients who suffer from articular cartilage damage and provides pain relief while at the same time slowing down the progression of damage or considerably delaying knee replacement surgery.
Meniscal cartilage repair is a procedure to repair a tear in the meniscus. The meniscus is a c-shaped piece of cartilage in the knee joint that offers lubrication and nutrition to the joint.
Cruciate ligament reconstruction is a surgical tissue graft replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament, located in the knee, to restore its function after anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) repair is surgery to prevent recurrent dislocation of the kneecap. The aim of the operation is to rebuild the torn Medial patello-femoral ligament.
Sporting activities are a popular way of keeping fit, and active. Unfortunately, injuries to the knee are quite common. The ligaments of knee joints including the anterior cruciate ligament and the collateral ligaments are commonly injured. PCL and patellar tendons are less commonly affected. Cushion cartilage and articular cartilage damage is another common sport injury.
The structure which are mainly injured during sport activities includes Ligaments, tendons, Cushion cartilage (meniscus), and covering cartilage (articular cartilage).
Medial and lateral collateral ligaments around the ankle are main stabilising factors for ankle joint. These ligaments along with the articular cartilage are commonly injured during sports activities.
Other than these injuries, patellar tendinitis (anterior knee pain), Tendo-Achilles tendinitis (heel pain), and trochanteric tendinitis are also related to sport activities.
Mr Maqsood has received special training and has the expertise to treat these injuries surgically as well as non-surgically. He has been specially trained to reconstruct the torn ligaments using grafts and synthetic materials.
Mr Maqsood has over 21 years of experience in performing hip surgery and total hip replacements. He has developed many new techniques and modified the way of operative procedures to improve the surgical outcomes.
Mr Maqsood offers cemented hip replacement, which is a well tried and tested method. He also offers uncemented total hip replacements where the implant is fixed without cement and is considered better for younger patients. From his experience both techniques show excellent results in his hands.
Mr Maqsood also uses the option of ceramic material for total hip replacements. This is a frictionless material compared to the conventional implant. This type of implant can be beneficial for very fit, active, and very mobile patients who enjoy taking part in sporting activities.
He has developed the enhanced recovery programme, where patients are getting up and mobilising on the same day of surgery. Patients are up and mobile hours after surgery, and this technique helps to prevent complication like clots in legs, chest infection or urinary tract infection. Patients recover quickly with minimal risk of complications.
Mr. Maqsood is performing shoulder surgery for the last 15 years in Lincolnshire. He is trained and specialised for the sports injury management. And also the common shoulder problems; which includes Impingement syndrome, Rotator cuff tear, recurrent dislocation, ACJ joint repair, ligaments and tendon problems around the shoulder joint.
Mr. Maqsood has pioneered the proximal humeral fracture fixation in Lincolnshire, he is first to use the PHILOS plate in Lincolnshire, which has changed the whole management of the proximal humeral fracture. Now it has become the Gold standard for management of Humeral fracture.
Mr. Maqsood is very keen to treat the collar bone “ Clavicle” fracture with specialise plates and screws. He has managed undo many complex mal-united clavicle fracture in the Lincolnshire.
He has modified few operative technique in the shoulder joint, which has helped the patient recovery and long term outcome. He modified the Acromioplasty to mini –Open acromioplasty, which is performed by using only 2 cm incision , minimal blood loss and less chances of recurrence.
Mr Maqsood offers surgery is offering specialised care to the foot and ankle problem for the last 14 years in Lincolnshire. He has got special interest in the bunion surgery and perform surgery under local and general anaesthesia.
He offers surgery for toe deformities, rheumatoid foot surgery, fracture management. He is very keen to use Minimal invasive technique to fix the fractures especially the distal tibia fracture. He used the locking plates for the fixation of this fracture without opening the skin, just percutaneous stab wounds. Which help the healing with minimal disabilities.
Mr. Maqsood has been treating the cartilage defect in the talus bone. It is very difficult problem to treat, but Mr. Maqsood has pioneered a new technique in which the cartilage defect in the main weight bearing bone Talus is repaired using Tru-Fit plugs which acts like a scaffolds and promote new cartilage repair by the surrounding stem cells.
This has been very successful technique and cured many patients, otherwise they might have ended up with arthritis in the ankle joint. Mr Maqsood also repair and reconstruct the ligament around the Ankle joint. Foot baller and other sport person can I jure the ligament, which can make the joint very unstable and leads to give way. Walking become very difficult especially on uneven surfaces. Therefore direct repair in acute and reconstruction in the old injuries can be done. He has got a vast experience of this type of problem.
